EXPLORING ONLINE OCEAN DATA AND RESOURCES
Dr. Ana Barbosa is currently assistant professor at the University of Algarve, where she has been lecturing since 1991, and researcher at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research.
She has been teaching multiple courses focused on biological oceanography and marine ecosystems, and her research interests focus on dynamics, regulation and trophic role of planktonic microbes, and impacts of environmental change in marine ecosystems.
Some of her most important contributions include ‘Variability patterns and phenology of harmful phytoplankton blooms off southern Portugal: looking for region-specific environmental drivers and predictors’ and ‘Unravelling region-specific environmental drivers of phytoplankton across a complex marine domain (off SW Iberia)’. Currently, she participates in a series of projects including ‘São Tomé and Príncipe little fish threatened – a big opportunity to unravel this fishery resource in tropical islands’ and ‘SEA-EU – European University of the Seas’.
